There are two available powertrains, including the base turbocharged 2.3-liter four-cylinder engine rated for 300 hp and 310 lb-ft of torque, which is standard on Active, ST-line and Platinum, and the twin-turbo 3.0-liter V6 rated for 400 hp and 415 lb-ft of torque on ST. For 2025, all Ford Explorer models now come standard with the previously optional Class III Trailer Tow Package, allowing for a max tow rating of up to 5,000 pounds.

Using this engine, the Ford Explorer delivers an EPA-estimated 21 MPG city and 28 MPG highway rating.

The 2025 Ford Explorer’s sporty ST grade gets the twin-turbo 3.0-liter EcoBoost V6 engine rated for up to 400 hp and 415 lb-ft of torque. Plus, ST comes with paddle shifters, high-performance brakes and a responsive sport-tuned suspension that allows for spirited performance while delivering an engaging driving experience. The Terrain Management System*™ lets drivers choose from six selectable drive modes, including Normal, Eco, Sport, Tow/Haul, Slippery and Trail, to adapt to changing conditions—and adding available Intelligent 4WD gets you Deep Snow/Sand mode as well.

The 2025 Ford Explorer’s redesigned dashboard is shaped to provide more room for front passengers, and the 3-row SUV’s trunk area includes up to 18.2 cubic feet of storage space. Folding down the second row gets you up to 47.9 cubic feet of cargo volume, and max cargo capacity comes out to an expanded 87.8 cubic feet with all rear seats folded down, giving you plenty of flexibility for your next adventure.
