- Wheelbase and box length
- Rear axle ratio

Lightning Towing Considerations
- Standard-range and extended-range batteries have different ratings.
- Higher ratings require the Max Trailer Tow Package.
- Payload and option content reduce available capability.
- Fifth-wheel towing is not recommended for F-150 Lightning.
- Trailer size, aerodynamics and load can affect electric driving range.
2025 Ford Super Duty Maximum Towing Capacity
The 2025 Super Duty lineup provides Ford's highest towing capability, with gas and diesel engines designed for conventional, fifth-wheel and gooseneck trailers.
Super Duty Engine Capability

Include fluids, cargo, gear, accessories and everything else that will be aboard the trailer during normal use.
Choose the Appropriate Vehicle Class
A Maverick may be ideal for a small trailer, while large fifth-wheel or gooseneck trailers may require an F-350 or F-450.
Select the Engine & Drivetrain
Engine, rear axle ratio and 4x2 or 4x4 configuration can significantly alter the tow rating.
Verify Payload
Trailer tongue or king pin weight counts against payload along with people, cargo, accessories and installed equipment.
Confirm the Required Tow Package
Ford requires specific packages or equipment to achieve many of the higher ratings shown in the towing guide.
Verify the Exact Vehicle Before Buying
Check the vehicle's door labels, Owner's Manual and configuration-specific towing information before assuming a maximum rating applies.
Ford Trailer-Towing Basics
Load the Trailer Correctly
- Keep the trailer's center of gravity low.
- Balance the load from side to side.

Adjust Your Driving
- Allow significantly more stopping distance.
- Make wider turns to clear curbs and obstacles.
- Allow additional distance when passing.
- Use Tow/Haul mode where appropriate.
- Exercise additional caution on steep grades.
Ford recommends stopping after approximately 50 miles to recheck hitch attachment, trailer lights and electrical connections, and trailer wheel lug nuts.
